Bitcoin halving May 2020

Approximately every 4 years there is a bitcoin halving. This means that the amount of bitcoins that gets created every 10 minutes gets cut in half.

The upcoming halving in May 2020 will reduce the block reward from 12.5 bitcoin per 10 minutes to 6.25 bitcoin.

The block reward is something that happens every 10 min until there are no more bitcoins left. Bitcoin has a total supply of 21 million bitcoins and currently there are 18,196,112 bitcoin in circulation. However it is estimated that it is even less in circulation, since a lot of bitcoins are presumably lost, by people throwing away their old computers and thereby losing access to their hard drives, lost their private keys or just forgot all about their bitcoins.

It is estimated that more than 2 million bitcoins have been lost and will never be recovered.

Currently the bitcoin halving is estimated to happen 12th of May 2020.

Bitcoin halving cycles

Judging from the past two bitcoin halvings bitcoin, the halvings has works as kickstarters of the next bull run.

Historically bitcoin bottoms 1.5 year before the next halving and this seems to catalyst the bitcoin to move into the next parabolic advance.

Next parabolic advance
As it can be seen in the above chart with a logarithmic scale, bitcoin has in the past seen some massive gains.

This is also why bitcoin is the best performing asset in history, outperforming S&P500, Dow Jones and many more. All of this in on only 11 years. However it is worth mentioning that if you do not invest in bitcoin at the top of these parabolic phases then your investment is likely to drop more than 80%. This means that bitcoin is a very risk investment.

Only time will tell if we already started the next parabolic phase and if it will reach new all time highs. But if we do analysts say that it can be worth $100.000, $1.000.000 or much more. There are also analysts out there that believe bitcoin will go to 0.
